Pupils compete in front of Denise Lewis OBE

Pupils from Endike Primary Academy competed in a sports event attended by Olympians and Commonwealth athletes including Denise Lewis OBE, Gabby Logan and former Scotland Rugby International, Kenny Logan.

The David Ross Education Trust’s (DRET) Summer Cup held at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre, saw a number of the Trust’s 33 academies compete for a chance to lift the David Ross Foundation trophy.

Pupils took part in a number of events throughout the day including, indoor athletics, hockey and swimming.

Denise Lewis, former Olympic champion, commented: "I am so honoured to be part of this inspiring event. What’s great about the Summer Cup is that by bringing these academies together they have the opportunity to experience a high level of competition.”

Former gymnast and TV presenter, Gabby Logan, was on hand throughout the day speaking to winners and commentating on some of the races.

David Ross, Sponsor of the Trust, said: “The Summer Cup has been an incredible success and proves that this event just keeps getting bigger and better each year.

“Events like this are really important to us as they bring us together and really showcase the high level of talent and potential we have in our network. I am very proud of each and every one of the students that took part.”
